Welcome to the World, Solomon!

Solomon Becker Selkin was born on July 24, 2008 at 4:07 pm. He weighed 7 pounds and 10 ounces, and was 20 3/4 inches long. We brought him home yesterday and introduced him to his dog-brother, who is taking the change quite well. Mostly, we've been getting to know each other and recovering from the process.

All are invited to his bris on Thursday, July 31 at 10 am at Temple Beth El in Tacoma (5975 S 12th St). You do not need to RSVP, but if you are planning on going it would be great if you would drop us a line so we can get enough bagels!

Five days, but still below average?

On average, first time moms go into labor 6 days after their due dates. I am five days late, which I guess is normal.

Not much other news to report. Melissa and Luc came down to celebrate the due date with a picnic in Point Defiance Park, but sadly the photos got fried in my new camera. I guess it is a blessing since it happened before we took photos in the hospital. Erica (and briefly, Chris) came by for another celebration a few days ago.

Otherwise, we're awaiting Mom and Ira, who are flying out from NY tonight. And we wait...

Not yet, thanks for asking...

Tomorrow is the 12th, so we're getting a lot of questions about whether or not we have a baby yet. The answer is not yet, but thanks for asking. We think we are as ready as we're going to get, so now we wait. If you are in the area and want to help distract us, let us know!

Nursery Tour Video

Today the midwife told me I should stop working on the house. Instead, we are trying to learn to use our new video camera (thanks Mom and Ira!). We made a silly video for the baby with a tour of the house and some 2008 trivia. We'll spare you the whole thing, but here is a clip where we "tour" the nursery.

Ultrasound Photos

Now that we are days away from seeing the little one, I'm finally getting around to posting the ultrasound photos! Pretty soon these will be much less exciting than "real" photos.

I ended up getting 5 total ultrasounds, since they wanted to keep track of the baby's growth. Some were better than others, but here are some examples.

This first one is from Febrary 21. The baby wouldn't turn to give us a profile, so we call this the "Skeletor" stage.

This one is from May 29. Our first good look at the profile. Baby's hand is next to the face.

This shot from June 19 is almost identical to the one from May, only baby is bigger! At this point, they estimated baby weighed 5 lbs, 14 oz. We didn't get any good face photos from July 3, but the estimate at that point was 6lbs, 9 oz.

Baby's foot in February and July. The long toes seem to be the only characteristics baby inherited from my side. Looking forward to seeing the little feets in person!

First Post

I am trying to set up this blog to keep friends and family updated on the progress of our soon-to-be-new arrival. As of now, we do not expect the baby to come before my due date of July 12, although labor prediction is not an exact science. In the meantime, I'll post the most recent ultrasound and some photos of the almost-complete nursery. More soon!
